The Risa Pulver Project
I am thrilled to announce the launch of my new business venture The Risa Pulver Project. Over the past twenty years I have used many of my talents in the worlds of fashion, events and philanthropy. The Risa Pulver Project will offer personalized styling and shopping customized to each client's needs. My more than 20 year background in Fundraising, Development and Special Events will enable to offer consulting to Not for Profits and Individuals. Networking and Personal connections make things happen. People give to People.....
I graduated from The Fashion of Institute of Technology with a BS in Marketing and degrees in Fashion Buying and Merchandising and Home Fashion Design. I have always loved fashion and shopping. I worked for my father in his retail shoe stores from the time I was 12 until 19, every Saturday. His stores were located in East Harlem. I had an amazing experience and learned so much while working for him. I learned about all different types of people. Our customers were Puerto Rican, Jamaican, Haitian, Central American, and African American. I learned about shopping patterns, selling skills and buying merchandise for your customer not for your own taste. I started earning $15 a day in 1977 and by 1984 I was making $50 a day. I would save up and look forward to going to NYC, Roosevelt Field Mall, and "The Flea Market" at Roosevelt Raceway. Any one who grew up on Long Island in the 70's and 80's knows the Flea Market! I worked in the Fashion Industry before, during and after graduating from FIT. I left the fashion industry in 1989 and went into a career working for Manufacturers Hanover and Chemical Bank in the "Home" Banking Division. Back then we called it Home Banking not Online Banking. My fashion background has always been with me. Over the past 25 years I have gotten very involved with charitable efforts on behalf of many deserving organizations. My charity of choice is The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation.
There is always time to incorporate giving back to society with your time and or money. I hope we are all doing something for someone else......

Back to Frozen Yogurt
After a 2 year hiatus from my blog I decided to write again..... Back to Frozen Yogurt.... I am obsessed with the "Tart" plain yogurt... Most all of us yogurt freaks know it from Lord & Taylor and Bloomingdales for many years..... There is a huge following over the years of women who eat this every day. One day, about five years ago I was at Lord & Taylor in Manhasset and there was almost a revolt. They "downsized" the yogurts. There was a new manager who decided the yogurts were way too large. Women were up in arms and needless to say the old HUGE portion sizes came back.... Then Pinkberry and Red Mango came onto the scene several years back.... Franchises have been popping up out in the suburbs for Red Mango.... I just came back from Miami and found the latest in Frozen Yogurt are Self Service Yogurt Shops. There are usually 4 or 5 machines that each have 2 flavors. You choose your cup size and fill them up.. Any flavor(s) you want. Then the toppings bar... Oh the toppings bar.... Usually upwards of 30 to 40 toppings... From assorted Fresh Fruits to Nuts to Candies etc etc.... Checkout http://yogurberry.com http://orangeleaf.com and http://www.yelp.com/biz/craving-frozen-yogurt-sunny-isles-beach ..... Also just went to Garden State Plaza in New Jersey and found another shop... A kiosk called www.16handles.com ..... Several other choices for Tart Yogurt are Haagen Dazs (they even sell it in pint sizes in the supermarkets now) Also Frogurt at Shock in Westhampton Beach and Frogurt at Yogurteria in Great Neck,,, Tasti Delite also has but not everyday... Twisted Yogurt in Little Neck is another fav!!!

Haters by Maya Angelou
I had to pass this wonderful poem by Maya Angelou along.....
A hater is someone who is jealous and envious and spends all
their time trying to make you look small so they can look tall.
They are very negative people to say the least. Nothing is ever
good enough! When you make your mark, you will always attract some
haters…That’s why you have to be careful with whom you share your
blessings and your dreams, because some folk can’t handle seeing you
blessed…
It’s dangerous to be like somebody else…
If God wanted you to be like somebody else, He would have given
you what He gave them! Right? You never know what people have gone
through to get what they have.
The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but
they don’t know my story… If the grass looks greener on the other side
of the fence, you can rest assured that the water bill is higher there
too!
We’ve all got some haters among us! People envy you because you can:
Have a relationship with God
Light up a room when you walk in
Start your own business
Tell a man / woman to hit the curb (if he / she isn’t about the right thing)
Raise your children without both parents being in the home
Haters can’t stand to see you happy, Haters will never want to
see you succeed, Haters never want you to get the victory, most of our
haters are people who are supposed to be on our side. How do you handle
your undercover haters?
You can handle these haters by:
1. Knowing who you are & who your true friends are *(VERY IMPORTANT!!)
2. Having a purpose to your life? Purpose does not mean having a job.
You can have a job and still be unfulfilled. A purpose is having
a clear sense of what God has called you to be. Your purpose is not
defined by what others think about you.
3. By remembering what you have is by divine prerogative and not
human manipulation. Fulfill your dreams!
You only have one life to live…when it’s your time to leave this earth,
you ‘want’ to be able to say, ‘I’ve lived my life and fulfilled
‘my’ dreams,… Now I’m ready to go HOME! When God gives you favor, you can
tell your haters, Don’t look at me…Look at Who is in charge of me…’

Remembering Rabbi Yossie Raichik
I was deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the very untimely passing of my friend Rabbi Yossie Raichik. Yossie did the motzi at Jake & Dylan's Bar Mitzvah in May 2007. He was a true mensch and a selfless individual who worked his whole life to help others. With condolences and deep sympathy to his wife Dina and children...May he rest in peace.

Rabbi Yossie Raichik, who as director of Chabad’s Children of Chernobyl project oversaw the rescue of thousands of children from the dangers of radioactive fallout, succumbed Sunday to complications from a lung infection. He was 55.
Raichik’s passing came as a shock to the tens of thousands of friends and admirers worldwide who took to reciting Psalms in the past week as the rabbi awaited a lung transplant at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital.
The son of Rabbi Shmuel Dovid and Leah Raichik – who were sent to Los Angeles as emissaries of the Sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, of righteous memory, in 1949 – Yossie Raichik grew up in a household modeled on the selflessness of his parents.

In the years following World War II, his father tended personally to the welfare of many displaced Jews in Shanghai, China. He also resuscitated Jewish communities across North America as a roving emissary of the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, and was sought after worldwide to help mediate local disputes. The father’s wisdom, humility and selflessness inspired others to sacrifice for the sake of communal and personal peace.
His mother, who was known fondly as the “Bubbe of the Golden State,” created an open-door home where titans and paupers alike felt comfortable dropping in at any time of the day or night.
The son reflected his parents’ warmth, and attracted a cadre of civilly-minded professionals with his disarming personality. He worked on Chabad of the West Coast’s now-famous Telethon prior to founding the Children of Chernobyl project.
In the early 1980s, he traveled to Iran at the behest of the Rebbe on a special mission to rescue hundreds of Jewish families.
When the Chernobyl, Ukraine, nuclear accident transfixed the world and sent a radioactive cloud across Eastern Europe, Raichik immediately turned to helping those in need. He moved to Israel in order to facilitate the airlifting of children hit hardest by the disaster.
Since its founding in 1989, Children of Chernobyl has brought more than 2,531 children and 1,757 parents from areas surrounding Chernobyl, Ukraine, to live in Israel. Recognized by UNICEF, the project has garnered the support of Hollywood filmmakers and politicians, as well as Jews worldwide who considered Raichik their personal rabbi.
This summer, the organization airlifted its 81st group to Kfar Chabad, where it provides medical treatment, special homes and assistance to adjusting to life in the Middle East.
“Since taking on the role of director of the program and until his last day, Raichik was a father not only to his own children, but to the thousands of children he helped to bring to Israel,” said Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Levenhartz, assistant director general of the Chabad-Lubavitch Youth Organization in Israel. “He traveled across the world and was away from home for long periods of time in order to bring the necessary resources to care for the welfare of the children in Kfar Chabad.”
Just last month, Raichik participated in the circumcision of a son of one of the group’s rescued children.
“He always saw the good in everyone,” added Levenhartz. “Everyone appreciated his advice and warmth.
“Moments before he was hospitalized, he used his last strengths to hug his children and dance with them.”
Raichik is survived by his wife Dina, their children, and his brothers and sisters, who serve as Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries in locations across the globe.
“He was a true Chasid,” Rabbi Mordechai Shmuel Ashkenazi, chief rabbi of the Israeli village of Kfar Chabad, tearfully said at the afternoon funeral. “It is hard to separate from him.”
Raichik was buried at Jerusalem’s Har Hamenuchot cemetery.

Louis Vuitton Summer Party
It was all about style and bling at the LV Party at The Americana Manhasset tonight. The store was jam packed with a great upbeat crowd partying and having a great time while previewing the latest LV collections for Fall.... On display was the latest Monogram Vernis Alma's in all the new fall colors.. My favorite is the GM... Just right for me in jumbo size...... I like my bags BIG!!! Women's shoes for Fall are insane!!! I see several pairs of the latest platform pumps and boots in my future..... Monogramouflage is hot!!!! I think the Monogramouflage Pegase 60 will go great with my Monogramouflage Passport Case... Thanks Edie!!!

The Tart Yogurt Wars........
Hmmm the tart yogurt wars... What I am talking about... Before Pinkberry, Yolato and Red Mango.. there was and still is Frogurt from Bloomies 40 KARATS and Lord & Taylor... Addictive.. Tart.. Plain.. Original Frozen Yogurt... If you're in the yogurt KNOW you have been enjoying these for years... With Pinkberry and Red Mango and Yolato popping up all over Manhattan.. stretching to Brooklyn and Queens... we are in the midst of the "Tart Yogurt Wars"... There have been many rumors that Pinkberry may come from a powder mixture??? Is it really yogurt?? I don't know but it is DELICIOUS!!! Did you know that Red Mango has over 140 locations in South Korea? Did you know that just a 30 minute ride from the Gold Coast of Long Island brings you to Flushing, Queens home to both Red Mango and Pinkberry... It is well worth the trip... Decide for yourself... Children of Chernobyl Latest Rescue Flight
JON VOIGHT AND CCOC WELCOME 36 CHILDREN TO ISRAEL ON CCOC RESCUE FLIGHT #80
Academy Award Winning Actor, Jon Voight, traveled halfway around the world, ten hours into the future, and over the roofs of many of our homes to meet Chabad’s Children of Chernobyl’s 80th Rescue Mission on the tarmac of Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel.
On Monday evening, May 12, 2008, Voight welcomed thirty-six children from Belarus, Ukraine, and Western Russia, escorting the first young child—a seven-year-old girl—down the steps of the airplane.
“It is truly an amazing experience to see these children—these beautiful children—who we talk about year after year at the Children at Heart dinner disembark the plane,” Voight said. “All of our hard work, our fundraisers, and our efforts pay off when you see the hope restored in a young child’s eyes.”
Eighty children previously evacuated from the Chernobyl region by CCOC, members of the New York CCOC office, and generous CCOC donors joined Jon at the airport to celebrate this momentous flight.
“I am excited to see my friend from home,” a teenage girl said as the flight landed. “I know that Israel will make her feel better. Israel made my headaches go away. But, really, I am most excited to see everybody from the flight—because I know that they will soon be my friends, too, and their pain will go away.”
The children celebrated their arrival with friends and family members they had not seen in months. A woman from Ukraine was reunited with her daughter who had been rescued on CCOC Rescue Flight # 79. Everybody around the mother and daughter watched their reunion in tears of happiness—they remained in each other’s arms for the remainder of the welcoming.
Young boys were lifted into the air and danced around on the shoulders of the teenage boys and young men who came to welcome the flight. Jon was swept up into the celebration as well and the young children laughed in awe as they saw him bouncing around the airport on the shoulders of a young man rescued on a past CCOC flight—a flight that Jon himself helped make possible.
The evening was packed with celebration, high energy, and excitement. Optimism, hope, and opportunity could be felt in the air—but the physical pain in the children could clearly be seen as well. The children have been settled in their new homes in Kfar Chabad and have already started their medical treatment and their roads to recovery.
Jon joined the CCOC executives in Kfar Chabad Thursday afternoon, May 15, 2008, to visit with the 36 children who just arrived on Monday, children from previous CCOC flights, and alumni of the CCOC program. Jon has been in Israel all week as the spokesman for CCOC and has dedicated his entire visit in the country to helping children, listening to their stories, and giving them strength. No Cash, No ATM, No Credit Card....
What an afternoon I had yesterday.... I took Dylan and Jake into the city for an orthodontist appointment.... On the way into the city I realized I had left my AMEX and Driver's License in my evening bag from the previous night's event... I figured ok.. I have some cash and my ATM card... Then I realized I had also left my ATM card in my evening bag.. OK I have my Visa card... No problems.. We'll go out for dinner after the orthodontist and I will use my VISA... So we go to EJ's and have dinner.. The check comes and I take out my VISA card... The waitress says I'm sorry we only take cash but there is an ATM right over there in the corner... OYYYY I start to get a little panicked... I go over to the ATM and try to get a cash advance on my VISA.. Machine says "Transaction not Allowed"... I didn't want to alarm the boys at all... I went back to my table and noticed that a woman that I know was just seated next to us... OYYY can this get any worse. I didn't have the relationship with her where I would have asked her to borrow 30 bucks... What a disaster... SO I ask the manager if I can write them a check for the difference.. She said let me check with my boss... She then told me she could take my VISA card and process it through their delivery business... WHEW was I happy!!!!
We leave EJ's and go into a shop next door to buy some shirts for Jeff and the boys... We go to pay and my VISA card comes up declined.. I am totally baffled now... Also a little freaked out!!! We get in the car to drive home and Dylan takes my cell phone and says "no talking on your phone" what if we get pulled over by a cop and since you don't have your license I will either cry or get very mad at you!!! We get home and I check my voicemail.. There is a message from Chase bank about potential "fraudulent" activity on my VISA card.. I call them back and get someone on the phone who has a very "heavy" accent... She is reviewing 2 charges with me which were both mine.. No Fraud!! Then I had to answer a series of multiple choice questions for their security... I could barely understand the women and finally asked if I was speaking to someone in the USA and she hesistated and said "your call has been routed to the Phillipines". I was thoroughly disgusted!!!!! To add insult to injury... My card was flagged because I actually "used" it... Gee isn't that what the credit card companies want?? Then I had to spend 15 minutes on the phone with someone I could barely understand. What is happening to this country?? Our own Americans need jobs and American companies keep finding cheaper and cheaper solutions instead of taking care of their own!!! SAD.........

No Smelly Food on My Flights!!!!
It is absolutely vile to been sitting on a flight... and have to smell "stinky" food.... I think there should be a ban on eating any food that "smells"!!! On my flight back from Florida tonight all of a sudden Jake and Dylan and I stared at each other while making horrible faces!!! Someone near us was eating something with an indescribable smell.... Luckily I had a small sample of perfume and immediately pulled it out.. Doused myself in it and then placed two small dabs under my nose and the boys too!!! My sister gave me this idea from all of her frequent flying and sometimes... its often not the food but the people!!!!! Oyyyyy..

I love "Lipstick Jungle"!!!!
Finally we have some new programming for the ladies!! I watched the 2nd episode of Lipstick Jungle last night and love it!!! The clothes, the bags, the shoes.... So decadent!!! Did you ever see so much python and croc?? Then did I forget to mention the fabulous jewelry!! The stylists for this show have certainly done it right!! Can't wait till next week......

Can't Live Without....
Ok so I have become addicted to things.... Never was an addict before... But I confess....
- Edamame .... Must have my daily allowance....
- Fage Greek Yogurt... Must have 1 or 2 a day... Have been known to run out to the supermarket late at night if I don't see
some in the fridge.... I have never run to the supermarket for anything before... Ask my family....
- Earphone attached to my Orange "Lifetime TV Exclusive" IPOD... So my fabulous teenage boys have hooked me up with all
the latest and greatest in Hip Hop, R and B, Rock etc... to the tune of several thousand songs.... WOW it was so nice today
walking through Fort Lauderdale Airport and then onto the plane with the volume turned "all the way" up....
Geez I couldn't even hear the gate attendant telling me that I wasn't really supposed to be boarding yet...
La la la I really couldn't hear her..... Then I didn't have to hear anyone on the plane or in the airport.... Sheer Bliss...

Teach your children correct behavior....
It never ceases to amaze me each time I witness young children carrying on in restaurants... their parents totally oblivious to the yelling... ranting... and complete misbehaving. Tonight I was out to dinner and there was a table with 7 young children and 2 sets of parents. At one point I heard one mother say I don't care if they scream. Maybe she didn't care but I certainly did. Is there no regard for shared space? Do parents think their kids will ever learn proper behavior if they completely ignore the misbehavior and never correct them. Time and time again I see kids running around restaurants... Parents in their own worlds... Talking to their friends.. Ignoring the kids... Letting them carry on.. Disturbing others.... Its the parent's fault...
Children need to be taught... They need to understand what is acceptable behavior in each and every situation. If a parent doesn't take the time to teach their children then we all suffer. I think many parents find it easier to ignore... Sad but true!!!

In Love with FAGE
I've been buying Fage Greek Style Yogurt for a few weeks now. Its been sitting in the fridge and I keep saying I have to finally try it. Being not much of a yogurt fan I kept resisting. Well I just tried it and wow I am a new fan!!! It is delicious especially if
you like very thick creamy yogurt. I did add half a packet of splenda and some sliced almonds. I was very pleasantly suprised.
If you like tart yogurt you will love this....

Little Kids Make Me Laugh!!!
I was talking to my friend Liz last night... We go way back to my first job after college at Allied Stores Corp. Liz is like a sister and so in that her two gorgeous delightful kids are my niece and nephew. Kids never cease to amaze me in how they think and the words that come out of their mouths. Their thought processes even at the youngest ages are sometimes unbelievable..... So here's the story.... Liz told her six year old son that she didn't want him to watch Sponge Bob Square Pants during the week after school anymore. He could watch it on the weekend only. Shortly after telling him this Liz noticed her TV had the DVR (like TIVO) on and it was recording something. She asked her husband if he was recording a show and he said no. She goes to the DVR guide and sees the shows being recorded are Sponge bob Square Pants for the entire week at both the 2:30 and 7:00. Liz is shocked.... Then she approaches her "little guy" and asks him if he was recording Sponge Bob Square pants. He says yes and says Mom you told me I could watch it only on the weekend so I was planning to watch all the shows on the weekend. When Liz told me the story I cracked up. First I thought wow how slick. Then I saw his point and laughed even more when I knew this came from a 6 year old. He was just acting like anyone else who would record there favorite shows and watch them when they were able. In his case over the weekend. Then to make matters even funnier he remembered that he heard his dad say the weekend starts on Friday afternoon. He then asked his aunt who agreed. So he decided he could start watching his show on Friday after school. His mom, my friend Liz decided he shouldn't be watching it all so she told him she needed to think about it and for now he wouldn't be able to watch the show at all. He was a real trooper and is watching patiently for her to give him an answer. She suggested buying some Sponge Bob books and games. When they went to book store to buy the books he looked through them and said Mommy the words in the book are worse than the show so can I watch the show??? Of course she was speechless and is still debating...

Chabad's Children of Chernobyl Fantasy Auction and Dinner
I am honored to be a Dinner Chair for Children of Chernobyl "Children at Heart" Fantasy Auction and Dinner being held on November 19th at Pier Sixty. The beneficiaries of this wonderful evening are the very lucky children who are rescued from the Chernobyl affected areas in the Ukraine and Belarus. This problem exists today and is even more pervasive for the people living there with the contamination. Please visit the ccoc.net for more information. The evening which last year raised almost 2 million dollars and enabled many many children to be brought to Israel to live in the warm surroundings of Kfar Chabad. I had the pleasure of visiting with many of these kids last year when I visited Israel in January. These wonderful children are given the opportunity for a new life outside of all the contamination. Frozen Grapes
While in Florida on vacation and sitting by the pool... the waiters passed around small cups of frozen grapes... so delicious and refreshing... Either red or green... Wash thoroughly... Pick from the vine and place in a ziploc freezer bag... Wait about 2 hours and you will have a refreshing healthy snack.... Enjoy!!!

Pinkberry
Well my friend Vikki introduced me to Pinkberry over the summer... It was only from a far since the line at the Second Avenue and 82nd Street outpost winded around the corner... Hmmm and we were so in the mood... So what is Pinkberry? A small shop that sells 2 flavors of frozen yogurt... and that's about it... Will it be Original or Green Tea? Several weeks later I was back in the city and made it my business to stop at Pinkberry. I had to see what all the fuss was about. I ordered a medium Original (very similar to the Plain Yogurt at Bloomingdale's 40 Carats and Lord Taylor and Frogurt Plain) loaded with diced fresh pineapple, diced fresh strawberries and sliced almonds.... Scrumptious, decadent, refreshing... A dream!! Try it for sure!!!!
